Ways You Can Help a Child...
Become a Brooklawn volunteer
From tutoring, becoming a mentor to a child, helping with a campus service project, or simply sending birthday and holiday greatings, volunteers play a major role in the lives of the boys living on the Brooklawn campus. To find out more about the many ways you can make a difference in a child's life click here. The Brooklawn Auxiliary is another great way to volunteer your time. The Auxiliary provides special treats, activities and help for the children of Brooklawn. The Auxiliary also actively coordinates and participates in special events and mailings. Just recently Brooklawn received a gift from the Auxiliary to begin a new Boy Scout Troop.
Make a Donation on-line
The newest and easiest way to help make a difference in a child's life. Make a donation to Brooklawn from the comfort of your own home. Click here for Brooklawn's on-line donation form.
Become a "Friend of Brooklawn"
By making a financial contribution to this annual appeal, you are not only helping children and families with severe emotional problems, you will be invited to Brooklawn’s annual Thanksgiving Dinner to share an evening with the residents.
Donate Your Old Vehicle to Brooklawn
Our Auto Donation program is a great way to help the boys at Brooklawn. Through an agreement with the Volunteers of America, you can have your car picked up and sold at auction with 75% of the proceeds going directly to Brooklawn. For more information on the Auto Donation program, contact Jim Mahanes, at 515-0466, or e-mail him here.
Consider including Brooklawn in your will
A bequest to Brooklawn is a great way to make a positive difference in the lives of children and families for generations to come.
Invest in a charitable gift annuity
A charitable gift annuity is an easy way to help Brooklawn while at the same time receiving a life income and a tax deduction. For example, a gift annuity of $25,000 pays an annuity rate of 7.6 %. The donor will receive $1,900 per year for the rest of his/her life. Of that $1,900, a portion will be tax free. The remainder will be considered ordinary income. Brooklawn’s annuity rates are recommendations by the American Council on Gift Annuities based on the age of the annuitant(s).
Give a gift of stock
Recently, Brooklawn received a gift of stock valued at $20,000 from two long-time donors. It is Brooklawn’s policy to immediately sell the stock and use the proceeds to further the Brooklawn mission in accordance with the donors’ wishes. The gift allowed the donors a charitable tax deduction, and both the donors and Brooklawn avoided capital gains taxes. These are just a few of the ways you can play a positive role in a troubled child's life.
For more information on these or other ways to help a child, please contact Vice President of Development, Mike Schultz, at 515-0470, or e-mail him at mschultz@brooklawn.net.
