Brooklawn offers a full continuum of licensed residential programs and services.

Our Continuum of Care...

Brooklawn offers a full continuum of licensed residential programs and services.

These include:

  • Community-Based/IMPACT Plus Services –  Brooklawn provides IMPACT Plus outpatient mental health services for children and adolescents who are experiencing ongoing behavioral and emotional problems.

IMPACT Plus services can be provided to young people in the home, in the community, or in our offices. Community-based/IMPACT Plus services are designed to help families prevent out-of-home placements and/or inpatient hospitalizations. Brooklawn’s IMPACT Plus outpatient therapy services assist in improving specific behaviors, and increasing overall family functioning.

For more information, visit Community-Based/IMPACT Plus Services.

  • Residential Treatment – Program for children and youth who require intensive 24/7 psychiatric treatment in a residential setting. Children in residential treatment live at Brooklawn in family style cottages and go to school on campus.

    Psychiatric Residential Treatment
    - Intensive Residential Treatment or PRTF is Brooklawn's most intensive residential program. In order to provide residents with the personalized and effective care, we maintain an extremely low 1:3 Staff to Resident ratio in this program. Residents typically have private rooms. The PRTF program admits boys ages 6-17 or girls ages 6-11 who have been hospitalized and need additional treatment before returning to home, or for those young people who are not showing significant progress in outpatient treatment and need a more structured treatment setting.

Private Child Care - The Private Child Care program or PCC is a less restrictive residential care program. Residents in this program may have private or semi private rooms. The PCC program is staffed at a 1:5 Staff to Resident ratio. Residents may attend Brooklawn's on-site school or attend public school. This structured-living program promotes wellness and higher levels of functioning for children and adolescents who have not been able to realize their potential in other settings.

    • Private Placement – Brooklawn accepts children through private referrals and is an approved provider with Aetna, Humana and Anthem/Blue Cross Blue Shield.
    • Group Living – Our off-campus group home for boys up to 21 years of age focuses on independent living skills preparing them for college, work, and life.

The Restorative Approach…

Brooklawn utilizes the Restorative Approach™ of treatment which focuses on relationship building rather than the punitive aspects of the level systems found in the “Behavioral Modification Model” of treatment.

This model of treatment has proven to be highly effective with young people who have experienced trauma. Rather than being punitive, the Restorative approach is a system that offers positive solutions and effective coping skills that address negative behavioral problems.

When young people display behaviors that hurt others, themselves, and/or the community, rather than taking away privileges or dropping levels, they learn restorative tasks to help regain lost trust and make amends.

The Restorative Approach model has been proven to help children and adolescents learn to handle emotions differently than they have in previous situations and take action to mend relationships.

Our Funding:

Brooklawn is a private, non-profit organization receiving
the majority of its funding from the Kentucky Department of
Community Based Services (DCBS), or through Medicaid
reimbursement.

While the state provides funding for the child's
basic and therapeutic needs, many ancillary costs associated with
the child's 24-hour care are not covered by DCBS. Brooklawn
is therefore dependent on private donations, foundations and
grants to cover the full cost of a child's treatment.

With more than 600 referrals each year and government funding
increasingly in doubt, community support is more important
than ever to Brooklawn's continued success in helping children.
