Brooklawn hosts visitors from the not-so-distant North
Brooklawn was honored with recent visits from members of two Indiana churches.

Church members St. Peter’s and Trinity Churches in Lamar, IN first visited on February 9, delivering “Welcome Baskets” for the first residents that will be admitted into Brooklawn’s new girls’ program next month.
They also brought a check for $150 from the church’s Women’s Guild to help purchase sheets and comforters, as well as, books, board games, scrap book sets and other miscellaneous goodies. The members of Trinity UCC plan to stay involved with Brooklawn’s new program, remembering the girls on their birthdays and special holidays.
Then, on February 13, a second group delivered Valentines for the boys living in Oak and Sycamore Halls. The members have “sponsored” the boys living in these two cottages for many years. They remember the boys on their birthdays and holidays, and keep them in a fresh supply of fleece blankets.
These two churches inspired others in the Lincolnland Association of the United Church of Christ to attempt to raise $50,000 to construct a splash park on the Brooklawn campus. Rev. Chip Jahn, pastor of both congregations, once preached in a penguin costume to help raise money for the project.
