Dreams and determination

Buffalo Bills standout, George Wilson knows what dreams and determination will get you. And he brought that message to the boys at Brooklawn recently during the JCPS Read Across America Day.

Wilson, a starting free safety with the Bills, is a graduate of Paducah Tilghman High School, in Western Kentucky. After high school, he attended the University of Arkansas not on a athletic scholarship - but rather an academic scholarship.

He eventually became a walk-on for the Razorbacks and ended up setting several school records. But that wasn't enough to catch the attention of the National Football League. Wilson wasn't a top draft pick. He was picked up by the Bills but saw little playing time.

But the one thing Wilson had....DETERMINATION. His chance opened up when the Bills starting free safety got injured and the team looked to Wilson to fill the gap.

In his first game against the famed Dallas Cowboys, Wilson intercepted a pass and ran it back 25 yards for his first NFL touchdown. He's been a starter ever since.

Wilson brought that story of drive and determination to the Brooklawn boys, and each one heard the message loud and clear.

After speaking to the group, Wilson (as expected) spent the rest of the morning signing his name to anything the boys handed him....shoes, shirts, paper, foreheads (kidding).

Wilson's brother, Kiyo, who played football for the University of Kentucky, works in the Brooklawn School as the High School Education Specialist.

Brooklawn would like to thank George Wilson for giving of his time so freely to inspire the boys, and to Kiyo for helping arrange the visit. Though almost two-weeks have past since the visit...the boys are still talking about the day they met a real NFL Football player.
