Brooklawn Thanks Dare To Care Foodbank

Each week, Brooklawn employee Jim Ballard makes a weekly visit to a local agency that has been invaluable to Brooklawn and the boys whom we serve.

For more than a decade, Brooklawn has been relying on the Dare to Care Food Bank to help keep us stocked with various food items we need to help feed the growing boys on Brooklawn's campus.

Each week, Jim travels to Dare to Care and loads the Brooklawn truck with food items that will help feed the 115 children in Brooklawn’s residential treatment programs.

 

The Dare to Care Food Bank and its storage facility on Fern Valley Road provides an efficient, low cost way of obtaining food for social service agencies in the community. Brooklawn is one of more than 356 benefitting not-for-profits in a 13 county area.

 

Brooklawn pays just a small shared maintenance fee at the rate of 14 cents per pound for the food. Beginning in 2002, Yum! Brands Foundation became a major corporate sponsor of Dare to Care Food Bank by committing $1 million annually to end hunger in the Kentuckiana area. Through this sponsorship, Brooklawn receives a “rebate” of the shared maintenance fee each year.

Brooklawn would like to offer a special thanks to the Dare to Care Food Bank and the Yum! Brands Foundation for helping feed the children of Brooklawn. “With rising food costs, we would not be able to offer the variety and quality of meals to our kids,” said Barbara Blasio, Brooklawn’s Food Service Coordinator.
